One common poker variation is community card poker. In this variant, each player is given some of the cards face up. After a betting round, the dealer distributes the remaining cards, which are then dealt to the next player. In some versions of community card poker, a player’s complete hand is drawn.

There are a variety of other variants, including high-low, jacks or better, and mixed games. These are not a part of the standard rules of poker. They can be used to change the structure of the game or to create variations.

Most modern poker games involve a forced bet, or ante. In these games, a player is required to place a certain number of chips in the pot before he can take part in the betting.
